OSUN STUDENT MOBILITY RESEARCH FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

Research Mobility

The OSUN Graduate Research Mobility Program can help fund research projects that are carried out as part of a Master’s or PhD program. To help cover the cost of travel and visa expenses, mandatory insurance, accommodations and living expenses for the duration of the research visit (21-60 days), a combination of merit- and need-based scholarships that range from 1,000 to 5,000 USD are available. Students are required to submit a detailed budget proposal as part of their application.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 

GRADUATE RESEARCH MOBILITY FUNDING 

(PERIOD OF MOBILITY: 3 weeks to 2 months) 

The call for applications opened in November 2023 for Mobilities in the Summer (May-July) of 2024.

  

Eligibility 

Graduate students (Masters and Doctoral level) enrolled at any of the below OSUN institutions are eligible to apply to another of the listed institutions in the current round. 

*Please note that students need to have active student status at one of the institutions in order to participate and need to return to their home institution to complete their degree program after the mobility.

The destination of the research mobility can be any of the other participating OSUN institutions with clear justification of the resources at the institution, including academic materials, faculty experts, and/or community partners relevant to the subject of research conducted by the applicant

Please note that this funding is for Mobility between OSUN institutions, so students cannot apply for funding to do research at their home institution or a non-OSUN institution.  

The focus of the mobility scheme is on North-South / South-North and South-South mobilities. 

The application must include an invitation / endorsement letter from the host institution. 

  • When approaching faculty to provide a letter of invitation, please  
  • Explain the nature of your research project and its relationship to the institution / faculty you are approaching 
  • What you hope to accomplish during your sojourn 
  • What programs or seminars you hope to participate in – if any 
  • Dates and duration 
  • Explain the nature of the programI.e. that you will receive funding from OSUN, so that faculty don’t think they are also being asked for financial support; You cannot assume that faculty are familiar with the OSUN student mobility program!

Scholarship 

The Program offers a combination of merit- and need-based scholarships that range from $1.000 to $,5.000. Please note that all scholarship payments are gross amounts, inclusive of all taxes and benefits. 

What is covered? 

Travel and visa expenses, mandatory insurance, accommodations and living stipend for the duration of the research visit (21- 60 days) can be covered. Students are required to submit a detailed budget proposal as part of their application.  

 

Application 

Applications for OSUN support have to be submitted through the OSUN student mobility application platform: Graduate Research Mobility Application  

 Application Deadline: February 11, 2024 for mobilities between May - July 2024

Applications for research mobility between May 1 and July 31, 2024 are due by 23:59 CET (Vienna) on February 11, 2024. Only complete applications, including both the letter of invitation from the host institution and the letter of recommendation from the student’s home institution supervisor/academic advisor will be considered. It is the student’s obligation to ensure these are submitted/uploaded by the application deadline. 

 

Application materials you will be asked to submit include the following for all applicants: 

  • Filled out application form on OSUN student mobility application platform 
  • Statement of Purpose 
  • Research proposal and timeline for the mobility period 
  • Up-to-date resume (CV) 
  • Letter of support from your supervisor / academic program director at your home institution
  • Letter of invitation/endorsement by your proposed research mentor/faculty member at the intended host institution* 
  • Budget proposal for your research visit 
  • Please ensure your research has been cleared for potential ethical concerns and be prepared to provide proof of this if selected for a scholarship 

 

*It is the responsibility of the applicant to secure the invitation/endorsement letter. Students can find the contact information of faculty members / researchers of OSUN member institutions online and contact them directly. Faculty members at their own universities can at times also assist with establishing contact. The applicant should explain the nature of their research and their interest in the host institution as well as the OSUN mobility opportunity, which may not be known to the intended host.

Timeline 

Applications will be reviewed by the OSUN Graduate Research Mobility Selection Committee composed of representatives of OSUN institutions. All applications submitted by February 11, 2024. 

 

A brief follow-up grant report to OSUN Graduate Mobility Programs is due four weeks after the completion of the research mobility visit. The follow-up grant report will include a narrative description of the visit outcomes.

In the selection of grant recipients the relevance of their proposed studies / research to OSUN themes will be taken into consideration.
